As an avid Israeli wines lover, have always been intrigued to get a comprehensive picture and details about the Israeli wineries. Below, a brief of extensive research I’ve conducted.
God build the Universe on Numbers
354 wineries, volume ~80 million bottles/year !!! Only 16 wineries make up 85% (~70 million bottles), other 338 together make up ~10 million only !
Wineries Development Trend
Following the graph below, majority (~80%) of wineries founded mainly between 1998 - 2013, containing boutique and small wineries ranging between less than 1,000 bottles up to tens of thousands. Graph excludes 9 wineries that were established before the establishment of Israel back in the 18th and 19th centuries. Further details in a separate post.
Kosher vs. Non-Kosher
Kosher vs. Non-Kosher wineries ratio is 50/50 (to be precise 53% kosher vs 47% non-kosher). However, production wise, 97% (78 million bottles) is kosher with only 16 wineries contributing the majority.
Wines Routes
The good news, above 80 wine routes (one day trip) spreading over 12 sub-regions; the bad news, wait a while post Covid-19.
